ERIE CANALWAY HERITAGE TRAIL EXHIBIT
Opening Night Reception
Wednesday, January 13, 2016
CITY OF TONAWANDA LIBRARY

If you find yourself getting cabin fever around the 13th of January, come on out for the gala opening of the new display at Tonawanda Public Library. Delightful refreshments, great conversation, and a chance to see the poster/photo display of Tonawanda’s Erie Canalway Heritage Trail signage, will be the offering from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM that evening.

Sponsored by the Historical Society of the Tonawandas, the display has been assembled from draft paper prints of signs for the Tonawanda Gateway Harbor area, produced by the manufacturer, Enameltec Porcelain Signage, PG Bell Inc. As the signs were being developed the company would send the city large paper drafts of the signs for comments and corrections. Society trustee, Alice Roth, then City of Tonawanda mayor, saved those drafts and recently donated them to the museum. With the aid of Ned Schimminger, Tonawanda Librarian Glenn Luba, and the Buffalo and Erie County Library’s graphics department, an impressive assemblage of poster art has been created.

“It occurred to me that many area residents have never seen these signs, so presenting them as a display would offer them an opportunity to experience them as a collection in a gallery-like setting.” Roth explained. “I think people will be impressed with the colorful graphics in the signs and enjoy the history lessons they provide.”

Mark your calendars for this special event:
